What is 'Have Piano Will Duel'?

Have Piano will Duel is a program that celebrates the talents of incredible youths in and around Indian River county. Select students first attend an intensive jazz workshop in the morning led by Music Director Dr. Jacob Craig. The purpose of the workshop is to educate students on the fundamentals of formulating a professional quality ensemble and maximizing an aesthetic experience with limited rehearsal time together. After the workshop, the students join Dr. Craig for a live production that is open to the public.

The Concert 

"Have Piano Will Duel" featured its first workshop and concert in June of 2018 and have continued the event each year. Our most recent show, held in December 2020, was entitled "A Jazzin' Christmas," as we performed holiday standards and infused them with a hint of jazz. Each year, our shows have enjoyed a capacity audience. The Christmas show's response was so exceptional we plan to add it as a 2nd production each year.

Our  Students

Our students embrace the experience of crafting a performance with minimal rehearsal. They also enjoy the challenge of collaborating with unfamiliar artists. In addition, participants receive a cash stipend and private lessons from a professional before the workshop. As our program continues, we hope to increase the number of musicians, the variety of instruments, and the rewards to assist in their college or support their musical endeavors. 

The COVID precautions restrict a definite date for our next concert. Hopefully, we will showcase in July of 2021.
